ROME Criteria:

Functional GastroIntestinal Disorders (FGIDs): disorders of the digestive system in which symptoms cannot be explained by the presence of structural or tissue abnormality, based on clinical symptoms.

  • Examples of FGIDs:
    • irritable bowel syndrome
    • functional dyspepsia
    • functional constipation
    • functional heartburn.
